Am I alone in finding that the Geni servers are taking a lot longer than they used to in order to provide a blue match with which one can merge? It used to be the case that if I added only one person whom I knew to be on the tree already, the server would not recognise it, while offering up several delectable Californians as possible matches. And fair enough. If I added, on both trees, eventually a correct blue match would come up among all the Australian body-buiders, Las Vegas strippers, etc. But not now.
Geni is still quick enough at giving us orange and brown matches, probably usually correct. But I am not interested in these, generally, because I cannot assess the reliabilty of someone's personal tree on My Heritage, whereas I know the general reliabilty (and limitations) of the sources which I usually use.
Of course this forces extra ingenuity in moving people around when you know where there is a match. (I've ended up having to move people around several centuries up and down using Kings and Royal Mistresses as navigation points). Evolution in action, perhaps, but not much help to someone constructing their own family tree. Not much help to curators, either; the number of profiles of Charlemagne that are going to have to be merged will simply multiply exponentially.
I didn't think I would miss removing suggested matches of a blameless Victorian spinster with a Polynesian cannibal or a Parisian whore two centuries earlier. But not only do the "right" matches not come up in blue any longer; nor do I have the amusement of the bizarre offerings that Geni used to give us.
Is this temporary? Is there a reason? Who is the Guilty Man? We should be told.
