Hello all! I am very distantly related to Richard III. And, if the sputum DNA test, (autosomal) has been processed correctly through 23ANDme, and the raw data I submitted has been processed correctly, I share a mtDNA haplogroup with Richard and his mother, Cecily Neville. My mtDNA haplogroup is J1c2c with an extra marker (1). Last year I had been communicating with Ian Logan, genealogist from UK, who did a lot of research into my tree in an attempt to help locate a female cousin who shares my direct maternal line, and, who has taken, or would be willing to take a DNA test, thus corroborating the mtDNA. So far, I've been unsuccessful in getting a female cousin to take the test. I have a well documented direct maternal line from my 3rd, 4th, and 5th great grandmothers, all from Switzerland. I wonder if it's been determined who Cecily Neville's mother was? Regards, from Lani.

Wikipedia: Cecily Neville was a daughter of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, and Joan Beaufort, Countess of Westmorland. Her paternal grandparents were John Neville, 3rd Baron Neville de Raby and Hon. Maud Percy, daughter of Henry de Percy, 2nd Baron Percy. Her maternal grandparents were John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, and Katherine Swynford. John of Gaunt was the third surviving son of Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault. By her mother, Cecily was a niece of King Henry IV of England.

So the mtDNA trail leads back through Katherine Swynford into the Low Countries - but, unfortunately, *Katherine's* mother is not known.

@Maven B Helms, thank you. I've included a number of those persons on my tree from other lines. My presumed direct line is from Edward I 's daughter Elizabeth Plantagenet de Rhuddlan. I was incorrect in posting yesterday, as I do have Cecily Neville's line going back to Katherine de Roet, and if I remember from my research this is where it ends from what we know?
