When Harmentje married Govert she was a resident of Flushing, Long Island, New York.

Govert Gerrits Egbert m. twice, 1st – ca. 1657, Harmentje Harmens, widow of Willem Janszen van Devener and Gerrit Hendrickszen, (according to some sources Egbert was her 3rd husband, 4th was Gerrit Tysen Van Velsor) res. Flushing, Long Is., NY, 2nd – 1674, Richmond, Staten Is., NY, Femmetje (Jaepje) Jans (possibly last name Hagewout?). The homestead could still be seen in 1964. (also said to be res. Esopus, NY) ‘Gerret’ was present but escaped at the massacre of 1663 at Wiltwyck, NY. From: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~emty/Section_D_Gover...

Confusing and conflicting information about the marriages above. The only way it could be so is if Govert and wife divorced and remarrried which is unlikely.

Hi Debra,

The main issue with this family is that someone somewhere has created a wonderful looking family tree which has been copied over and over on the internet by people who assume it is factual when in actuality it it is garbage.

"Govert Gerrit Egbert b. Apr 4 1641 in Meppel Drente Holland
d.Staten Island,NY, USA spouse: Femmetjie Jans"
Govert is a very uncommon name in Drenthe (which is of the 7 provinces that united to from the Netherlands, so it is not in Holland) there is a record for Gerrit Egberts b. Apr 4 1641 in Meppel which is why the name of the profile has been changed - any references to "Govert" therefore become suspect.
Femmetjie Jans on the other hand is so common that without any other info it is no help at all.

"Sanders Govert Egbert b. 1656 Richmond USA m. 1682 Brooklyn,Kings,NY, USA to Elsie Pieters Staats"
Sander Egbertsz was actually born in New Albany according to his marriage papers. Note the subtle name variation, the "S" belongs on the end of his last name as an abbreviation of "son", actually it is short for Egbertszoon which literally translates as "son of Egbert".

"Dirckje Govert Egbert b. 1660 Richrmond USA d. 1716 NY, USA
M.4 Nov 1683 Richmond NY to Pieter Pieterse Hagewout (Lefferts)"
Port Richmond area did not get settled until 1671 so unless she was an Indian ... she was actually born in Midwout, L.I. according to her marriage papers which happened in Bergen N.J.

"Harmintje Harmens 1642-1691 mother of Gerritje Gerrits b. Amersterm 1650-1700 died Kingston Ulster, New York. m. Tunis Egbert 1662-1674"
So HarmEntje was 8 years old when she gave birth?? Which one married Tunis, his mother or his sister?

"Geertje Egberts Sandersen b. Kings New York or Netherlands 1655-1711 in Bergen, New Jersey USA."
According to her profile Harmentje had a daughter named Geertje in 1658 with Egbert Sanderzen, but Kings did not exist in 1655. She was born in New Albany according to her marriage papers which happened in Bergen N.J., although in 1658 New Albany would still have been Fort Orange.

@Harmente Harmens
Guilty of having this confusion of marriages in my tree. I would love to hear if you get any clarity - I am a van Velsen descendant.

I don't recall the name van Velsen so i am not sure how you are connected to Harmentje Harmens and Geni can't tell me as you are not connected to the Word Tree.

Looking at Harmente and the profiles immediately around her it looks like no one has altered them since i was working on them last year. Without wanting to seem arrogant i would have to say that being the case they should be accurate the way they are.

I cannot find an online copy of Harmente's baptsim but as the data is entered by Ann it should be good quality.

I wasn't implying that your work wasn't correct, just that my tree (on Ancestry) was jumbled with 4 husbands and kids with varying surnames. I have started cleaning it up thanks to your profile of her.

Gerrit Thysen (van Velsen) and Harmente Harmens were my 8th great grandparents
Here is how I follow:
Matthys b. 1665
William H. b. 1696
William b. 1740
Elisha b. 1791
Thomas Jefferson b. 1815
Adelia van Velzor b. 1849 m. William H.H. Scott
Rufus Scott b.1873
William Scott b.1910
Living Father Scott
Kirsten Scott
Thanks for the work you do!

Your welcome and no offense was taken :)

I actually spent an hour or so trying to find the baptismal record but had no luck which is odd because the Gronigen baptisms for the 1640s are online.
