There is some conflict with this profile http://www.geni.com/people/Gerrit-Johannes-Jacobus-Strydom/60000000... which corresponds to info at
http://incolor.inetnebr.com/strydom/geslagsregisters/strydom/461_e3...
was he married to Oosthuizen or Nel and Blignaut, did he die in 1850 or 1861. Are there two of them, one under the wrong parents?
Sincerely,
Wietz Beukes

Hi Judith,
The information I used was provided to me from my Wife's Second Cousin Ian Uys. I assume it all to be correct. I will try to get in contact with him. He had researched all this info as he was going to write a book on the Strydom's. All my documentation on this is still in storage in SA as I have emmigrated to the UK.
Private and Wietz Beukes, a1b1c2d5e5f7?g9h4i1 almost 4 years later and yes, there's a huge mistake here somewhere.
I became interested in this profile because of the link to my husbands' Y DNA results.
Linked to 3 Y DNA Haplogroups? Impossible. R-M269, R-L617 and E-Z5018
I'll send you a message with information I found. Maybe it will help you to find the problem.
I think Aubrey Strydom would also be interested in this. This is the view of the different branches:

Based on the testers it seems Johannes b4 was R-M269, but Matthys b3 has the other two results. M, L and Z are very far from each other :-/
Hi Folks.
I have not looked at the historical marriage question - something perhaps to pass to Dan and Andre Strydom, but on the yDNA side let me clarify:
We have shown that Joost Strijdom's sons b3 Matthys and b4 Johannes were both R clade, so we are assuming that he was too.
GENI does not take into account that all the "R" test results in the Strydom lines are the same yDNA but just different depths of testing that have been paid for in FTDNA.
The more you pay to test the deeper your clade result:
The sequence at the moment (and there is no logic in the designation beyond the R - the sub clades just get code-named by the researchers that uncover them) - is (Basic) R-M269 > (up a little = the 23andme test) R-L51 > (Intermediate) R-ZZ12_1 > (Deeper) R-L617 > (Very Deep) R-BY31988. There are two more possible SNPs above this that have not been paid for and tested by any of us yet.
To shortcut the expenses of each step any Strydom with the basic R-M269 result can pay for the R-BY31988 SNP test.
So far lines to 5 living descendants below 3 different Grandsons of b3 Matthys have all tested R.
5 lines below 4 different Grandsons of b4 Johannes have also tested R.
However a different Great-Grandson line of two of those four b4 Johannes lines have also come up with something else - one with E-Z5018 which we believe to be the Afrikaaner "La Roux" line, and one with O-M175 - a Chinese line.
When exactly these NPEs (Non Parental Events) occurred will only be unravelled with more testing, but both branch off in the mid 1800s from a line that goes to a living R, so we can say that they happened after that time.
You can see the test results and some of the lines tested on the Strydom/Strijdom/ van Strijdonc/Strydonck Surname Project on FTDNA.

Sorry that was Le Roux not La Roux.
On the Cape Dutch site you will see under Le Roux the one Strydom, and the rest under the two Strydom sons b3 and b4.
There is an interesting difference between the b3 and b4 descendants in one mutation which shows up in 3 different places adds more repeats at DYS459, DYS464, and CDY.
If a Strydom does not know their family tree, with this we can put them in one branch or the other.
There are also plenty of other R clades represented in the Cape Dutch project, especially at R-M269 but in the finer detail in the test result columns you can see really big differences, whereas the Strydom vary only by a few mutations.
