While Rebecca Marie Smith might have a father named John Smith, the famous Colonial Governor of Virgina died and was buried in London 14 years before Rebecca is reputedly born in 1645. He mapped the coastlines of New England and even named "New Plimouth" on his maps before the Pilgrims arrived in 1620, but he was never living in New England.

Sorry for having missed this.

The famous explorer Capt John Smith (d 1631) not only didn't marry Pocahantas, he never married anyone, and declared the Colonies his children.

I believe Rebecca could have been a daughter of George Smith & Temperance; their son James also settled at Oyster River & his widow was killed in the same Raid in 1694.

So I'm relocating her to join this family

George Smith, of Dover Neck

Thanks Erica!

One thing to note and review. James Smith, of Oyster River is born after the death date we have for the mother Temperance Smith.

Thanks - I was trying to put in an "after the birth of her youngest child" (and research for a death date "before" - and did it before I located all the children. :).

Time to get real citations.
