My Sumner ancestor was Samuel Sumner b. abt. 1786 North Carolina who married Sarah Jane Clark b. abt. 1789 NC (as per census records). They had 10 children: Nancy Sumner McClintock, Joseph J., Elijah C., James H., Samuel, Mary, Clark, possible Sally Sumner Thompson, and two other boys.
I do not know how to do research in North Carolina. When I have contacted their state archives and state library they are not very helpful because I don't know what county my Sumners or Summers came from. I don't know how to find their county. I would like to find this family in records in NC but have been able to find very little.
