I've been trying to tie down the descendants of Robert the Bruce Robert I the Bruce, King of Scots as he is supposedly a 14th grandfather of mine as his descendants marry into William Bliss Sr. family. which tie in the my Webster family connections.
As I study this on geni.com it says that Robert The Bruce (1274) and his wife Elizabeth (1284) had a daughter Elizabeth de Bruce (1317 who married Sir Walter Oliphant of Gask and Aberdalgie. They had a son John Oliphant of Kellie (no birthdate is given but it would have to be in the 1300s and, no wife is mentioned either). It says that John had a son, Sir Alexander Oliphant of Kellie who was born in 1504. Someone must have been born in the 1400s so as a son his birthdate is not possible. Also it says that this John Oliphant of Kellie had a brother Sir John Oliphant of Kellie and Aberdalgie born in 1340. Seems suspiciously like this might be the same person On top of this it is stated that John Oliphant of Kellie's son Sir Alexander Oliphant of Kellie and his first wife Katherine Lester of Rothes (1511) had a daughter Elizabeth who married William Bliss Sr yet I find no mention of her on other sites that do talk about Sir Alexander of Oliphant and Katherine Lester. In sum, it seems that perhaps this line of descendants from Robert the Bruce to the Bliss Family hasn't been a focus of research, yet these are by and large master profiles. Is anyone particular interested in the descendants of Robert the Bruce or the ancestors of the Bliss family in the middle ages as they tie in with Scottish royalty? Thanks for some guidance here. Erica suggests I add the URL to one of the problem areas I see for the decedents of Robert the Bruce. Here is one of them. This says Sir John is born in the 1500's and his mother Elizabeth Bliss is born in the 1300. There is a missing century here. I'm wondering if anyone can explain this or fill this in.
And thanks to all who shared their connection with Robert The Bruce and me. It is great to see the connections.
John Oliphant of Aberdalgie & Kellie, Kt.
Robert I the Bruce, King of Scots is your 18th great grandfather.

Sandra, I think that you may have stumbled upon the same problem that I reported in the following discussion (which should be resolved by now):
http://www.geni.com/discussions/137868
Of course, there is still the issue of determining whether Elizabeth Blisse truly is the daughter of Alexander Oliphant, of Kellie, Kt. and Katherine Leslie, of Rothes...
Again, thanks everyone for making connection and thank you John Rigali for mentioning the other discussion. I'm sorry I didn't see that until yesterday and we are talking about some of the same problems. The century gap is a big part of the problem. And thanks Erica for working on this. And yes, whether Elizabeth Bliss is the daughter of Sir Alexander and Katherine Leslie is part of the issue. And thanks Patrick Morrison for suggesting a source for more research.

Elizabeth Aylher de Burgh, Queen of Scots is your 14th great grandmother. Thru the Bliss Family
Sir Alexander Oliphant of Kellie is My 11th great grandfather.
Katherine Leslie, of Rothes is my 11th great grandmother.
Elizabeth Bliss is my 10th great grandmother.
Sir John Oliphant of Aberdalgie & Kellie is my 13th great uncle.
Elizabeth de Bruce is my 13th great grandmother.
Bill - I'm sorry to have to say that I agree with Sandra & John. I find no evidence at all to support Elizabeth, wife of William "Blysse" Blisse, Sr as an Oliphant daughter. The Scots Peerage doesn't know her.
I've disconnected from unlikely parents. Let anyone who wants to re attach present evidence that trumps TSP.
I've created placeholder profiles for the parents of Elizabeth, wife of William Bliss:
unknown mother of Elizabeth Bliss
unknown father of Elizabeth Bliss
"no good deed goes unrewarded.".

I think it's unnecessarily risky to be the only profile manager in the historic tree. Some of us (not me) have real lives, and someone who understands the issues involved is in the best position to assist future questions.
And this is a chance for me to say:
William Bliss was a blacksmith in southern England.
Would you really expect to find him married to the daughter of Scottish knight?
