The case against DVPs in the suffix:
1) A suffix is part of a profiles name. Valid suffixs are Titles, decorations and awards
2) Placing numbers in fields on forms that were never originally intended for their use is NOT working “genealogically correct” You have created a “work around”
3) Long numbers in the suffix are ugly, and spoil the view of the tree and spoil printouts.
4) Living people with long suffix numbers clutter communication discussions, emails etc.
5) “I am not a number, I’m a free man”, throughout history numbers have been used to dehumanize people, most notably during the holocaust.
6) The DVP system is not absolute; it is only valid when cited to the version of GISA publication it was sourced from.
7) The GISA publications are incomplete, very expensive, and extremely slow to get updated.
8) The DVP is not the answer to merge issues, and will actually cause bad merges once more numbers are user corrected to reflect the situation on the Geni tree.
9) The number will continue to get longer every generation, therefore the system is not sustainable.
10) The DVP system is not inclusive, it cannot be applied to native South Africans.
