Private For a relationship path shortcut Charlemagne, and Francon I, vicomte de Narbonne

1. Click "Share this Path" in the relationship box.

2. Then scroll down to the bottom of the ensuing relationship path chart and click "Tweet This".

3. Now you have the complete relationship chart in Tweet form, which you can either tweet or "copy"
and use as a condensed link in emails.

@Malka,

I so appreciate your space saving instincts. ;-)

The only real problem with that route... is:

When Geni finds an alternative relationship... the PATH to the first one... is gone.. vanished and often, for a darned good long time, if it ever returns... (just my experience) with full copied out paths... one can:

a. see the path and follow it... themselves.
b. not have to depend on that specific path, also, STILL being there... when you come back and want it, for something.
c. can show multiple paths, sometimes.

xoxoxoRenée

7/22/2014 at 3:38 PM

I do, however, try to shorten the literal "LENGTH" of full path postings, by editing the blank spaces out... so, that all is nicely, close together and not so spread out...

then, it become more of a BLOCK form, than a long, long, scroll... ;-)

Preface

The day I finished this book I ran across an article purporting to say that we are all related to Charlemagne and essential there is no way that we are not related to Charlemagne. Mr. Lee thesis cannot be true because even he admittedly states that the formula does not take into account factors that would influence a proper answer. Here is a portion of what he has to relate:
http://www.oz.net/~lee/Genealogy/charlemagne.html
On Thu, 2006-08-17 at 12:35 -0700, James Leone wrote:
“ As I was researching my Lee ancestral line back into the middle ages, I was excited to find that I am apparently a direct descendant of Charlemagne, the first Holy Roman Emperor. As I dug deeper, I found at least three separate lines of descent from him to me, and I saw more and more genealogical sites on the Web that claimed similar descent. This started me thinking about how likely it is that I, or anyone for that matter, might be descended from a particular person that far back. As a mathematician (though not by any means a probabilist), I figured I ought to be able to come up with at least a rough estimate of the probability. My conclusion, which was surprising (to me at least), is that there is virtually no chance that anyone of European ancestry is not directly descended from Charlemagne.
Here's my reasoning. Charlemagne was approximately 40 generations back from the present day. Each person has 2 parents, 22 = 4 grandparents, 23 = 8 great-grandparents, and 240, or approximately 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion), 40th-generation ancestors, which means half a trillion male ancestors. Of course, since the entire male population of Europe at the time of Charlemagne was only about 15 million, these half trillion ancestors cannot all have been different men -- obviously there has been a lot of cross-breeding, and many of our ancestral lines cross and re-cross, eventually ending up at the same person. Let's assume that each of my 40th-generation male ancestors is a randomly-chosen man from eighth-century Europe (this is not really valid, but more on that below). Choosing any one such ancestor, say my father's father's ... father's father, the probability that that particular person is Charlemagne is one in 15 million. Pretty small. To put it another way, the probability that any particular ancestor was not Charlemagne is 1 - 1/15,000,000, or approximately 0.999999933. “
In my opinion this mathematical formulation is nonsensical or a non sequitur for all practicality. A direct line from Charlemagne in the 8th Century means the calculation is based on 1 person being Charlemagne and 14,999,999 are not Charlemagne. It assumes that the 15 or so million males other than Charlemagne did not exist or did not produce, or did not contribute to the holes in the probability theory. So now the number of probably descendants is not just one trillion but 15 million trillion. How can this be?
The European population in 2006 is only 731 million. It means that obviously one person is Charlemagne and whatever the correct number is -are not Charlemagne. The correct formulation for accurately determining the number of Charlemagne’s descendants is not based on solid information and foundation yet. None of the probability take into account war time deaths, couples who do not produce, and disease or the birth and death rates. These three factors alone could nullify all probability calculations. It probably will never be totally accurate. Presently, we can only consider the true number of descendants of those people, who can actually without mistake calculate their direct line to Charlemagne. The old adage is prove it! It also means that determining the correct number of the descendants of the 14,999,999 has also not been determined. What is known is that one trillion descendants is for all practical purposes a non-workable number given that the European population of today is only 731 million according to the United Nation’s estimate. It is not one trillion! That number could only be correct if there were no disease, or wars, great health, no poverty on earth, and a functioning two party couple who guarantees at least one birth per couple. If we subtract 731 million from one trillion we have 999,269,000,000. The number nine hundred and ninety nine billion two hundred and sixty nine million is a large mistaken calculation. It definitely points to the unworkability of the formula. Where is our common sense? This is simply comparing apples and oranges. But here the mathematicians are more than a bushel away. Therefore I reason that such a calculation is totally incorrect in calculating descendants and I chose to look only at people who can prove that they have a direct line to Charlemagne based on lineal research not probability.
While I may criticize Mr. Lee at the same time I wish him well because he has cared enough to venture into the unknown. I would also like to thank my patient wife, Millie, my sister Sue and Cousin Sondra and Sue’s offspring for supporting my ideas for collecting research by going to other people’s homes and drearily walking through graveyards to locate headstones. To my students who have helped along the way. While much of their endeavors do not relate to this book it does relate to the upcoming book entitled “ROYAL EUROPEAN ANCESTRY OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY

I wish to add myself, to the common interest group, on your last post, with André.
You are writing a book on this subject, as well as a second on EU Royals and America?

I would be interested in both! As well as, in a collaboration, for my own work, (to be released in EU in German and English) on my relationships, to aforementioned and more!

Geni does however offer an even shorter method, see example in http://www.geni.com/discussions/137692?msg=957706

Click Share Path, then twitter and copy the short-URL message in the suggested twitter message.

8/11/2014 at 8:38 AM

Johnny Pierre Warden I find a number of logical holes in your argument against mr Lee's logic.
The most important point is that you are alive. Therefore, you have a full tree of ancestors, and at the time of Charlemagne, that tree has half a trillion male "slots" that you *know* were filled. You wouldn't be here otherwise.

The current population of Europe is irrelevant to what happened at the time of Charlemagne, so mixing in the 731 million number makes no sense.

Unfortunately the link to the article doesn't work any more, so I can't look at his actual thesis to match it with your comments, but I do think it warrants a more thorough study than you've given it.
