Magdalena b5c2 born 16.10.1745 is reported to be married to Jan Booysen a1b5c4 (twice)
there is also Magdalena b5c6 born 16.10 .1754 reported to be married to Booysen.
Unknown Profile.
I suspect that a possible juxtaposition of the birth year caused her to be duplicated in the older genealogies.

The DVN number is not in accordance with SAF v2 where Zacharais is b6

Magdalena b6c2 in SAF v2 does not have a husband - assumed died before

Magdalena b6c6 in SAF v2 * 16.10.1754 x Jan Booysen 21.1.1770

I suggest the names and details of the two are changed/swapped so that they are the other way around - removing Booysen as husband from b6c2 (presently b5c5)

Back to wedding stuff.

names swapped

Private User I noticed a recent merge of
"Magdalena b6c2 in SAF v2 does not have a husband - assumed died before
Magdalena b6c6 in SAF v2 * 16.10.1754 x Jan Booysen 21.1.1770"

So now we have one Magdalena with two husbands. ?

Private User Thank you. The inventory of (Jan Booijzen) Jan Louis Booysen b3c4 mentions one wife, Magdalena Pretorius and 7 children.
I notice that the first 6 on his profile all have Magdelena Elisabeth Booysen (de Beer), b6c6 as their mother.

I have undone the following incorrect merge
Magdalena de Beer, a2b6c2 was merged into Magdalena Elizabeth Booysen de Beer, a2b6c6 by Hermanus Gerhardus "Herman" Booysen.

Done some tweaking - please check to see how things look now? Peter Dennis...Gone fishing! and Private User

Private User, thank you.
Herman Booysen, mistakes happen and can be corrected. I noticed merges after yours too.

Private User could we also take a look at Petrus Jacobus Booysen
The death notice states his parents as Gerhardus Lodewikus Booysen and Magdalena Elizabeth de Beer, at the moment he's got, two fathers on Geni

I've looked at almost every baptismal record of the period and in the Cape and can't find Magdalena Elizabeth de Beer, a2b6c6 anywhere ;-(

Hi Charmaine, Magdalena in question is actually b5c6 baptized at Stellenbosch 16 Oct 1754. It is she who married to Jan Booysen 21 Jan 1770. They only had 3 children to my knowlegde; Johanna , Anna , & Zacharias. As stated earlier Magdalena c2 bapt 16.10.1745 Tulbach; had died very young, hence naming c6 Magdalena, which was common practice with the Dutch in those days.
I hope this sorts the querry,
Thanks June for sorting.
Lovely evening.
Geoff.

Private User thank you for the reply. I am currently working on the Booysen family and found that there had been an incorrect merge again with the two Magdalenas. I am trying to find sources (as usual) and can't find the baptismal record of Magdalena Elizabeth de Beer, a2b6c6 on the date and place mentioned. I have added the baptismal record for Magdalena c2 to her profile.

At the same time, I'm also looking for sources for the seven children of Jan Booysen, a1b5c4 (married twice) to determine who their mothers were. The children are named in his inventory but only the second wife is named.

If Magdalena b5c6 died in 1843 all seven children could be hers.

... as can be seen on their profiles I've added the baptismal records of the first 5 children, all naming Magdalena de Beer as their mother.

Hi Charmaine....
b6c6 is Samuel Jacobus de Beer. So I not sure if you have the correct profile.
However:
Magdalena de Beer b5c6 was only married to Jan Booysen, and as I said they had 3 children. Magdalena had died hereafter, so Jan remarried a Margaretha Pretorius on 15/12/1793.
I not having any records of other children with Magdalena, however Jan was about 42 years old so its possible that further children were beget with Margaretha….

Also just remember that sometimes merges on Geni are not verified correctly with a source, but only a name, so the incorrect information is carried forward into the merge, yet not always rectified correctly by the manager, or whoever.(by mistake)
This can lead to confusion, especially with new members.

I hope this helps you Charmaine...
A super old years to you,
Geoff.

This is the person I am talking about. The DVN on her profile is a2b6c6, not entered by me.

Magdalena de Beer

I can't find her baptismal record but have found the baptismal records of 5 of her children. All of these records name the mother as Magdalena de Beer.

"Also just remember that sometimes merges on Geni are not verified correctly with a source, "

According to sources attached to all 7 of the children's' profiles (most of them added by myself) they were all born before Jan Booysens marriage to Margaretha Pretorius on 15/12/1793

I only need to find sources for her and the last two children's baptismal records.

I have un-merged what seems to have been the start of the confusion - Petrus Jacobus Booysen was merged into Petrus Jacobus Booysen, a1b5c4d7 by Hazel Ann du Plessis.

So now we have Magdalena married to Jan and Gerhardus - need to find out who the 2nd Magdalena!

The children follow the DN names fairly well up to a point - it looks to me as if the father's name is incorrect on the DN?

Private User

Private User my thoughts about the father on the DN exactly. Just didn't want to do the merge without another opinion, and I trust yours.

Excellent - let's get rid of Gerhardus! I will change the parents of Petrus and disconnect Gerhardus from the family.

[Message updated and corrected]

I transcribed Jan Booysen's estate file and translated it into English. His own children are clearly named there, as well as his grandchildren from his own predeceased child Zacharias. The transcript and translation are together in the same pdf which I have uploaded to his profile.

Only 1 wife mentioned: Magdalena Pretorius.

Children:

1. Gerrit Booijzen
2. Anna Elisabeth Booijzen married to Willem Sterrenberg Pretorius
3. Johanna Christina Booijzen married to Barend Johannes Vorster
4. Three children of the late Zacharias Booijzen, namely:
a. Jan, born on 30 October 1797
b. Elisabeth Catharina, approximately 8 years of age, and
c. Zacharias, born on 1 January 1804
5. Jan Jonathan Booijzen
6. Magdalena Booijzen married to Hercules Albertus Viljoen
7. Petrus Jacobus Booijzen

Therefore:
- Only 1 wife, Magdalena Pretorius.
- No Gerhardus at all, BUT this is the Latinised form of Gerrit (and was carried down the family line, hence my own 2nd name), so Gerhardus and Gerrit could easily be the same person!
- Only 1 Petrus.
