My great grandfather, Gustav Lindenberg, was killed in action at the Battle of Magersfontein on 11th December 1899. He fought in the Scandinavian Corps on the side of the Boers. I applied to the relevant military authority in Pretoria for the posthumous award of my great grandfather's Anglo-Boere Oorlog Medal. I was informed that my claim could not be entertained as my great grandfather's next of kin had not applied for his medal before the cut-off date of 1970, and that, in any event I was a great grandchild and so not qualified and entitled to lodge such a claim. I would welcome further comment on the above. Guy Beckett in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.
