Check R. Burnham Moffatt, The Author of: "Moffat Genealogies: Descent from Rev. John Moffat of Ulster County, NY 1909 book.

-William and Samuel Moffat were born in Ayrshire, Scotland and came to the Townland of Ballylig in Antrim County, Ireland (now N.Ireland) with their father Samuel Moffatt after the Battle of Bothwell Bridge in June 22, l679.

-William Moffat, the son of the elder Samuel Moffat left Ireland before his father, and arrived in New Jersey.

-The elder Samuel Moffat left Ireland late in life and after his son William Moffat. Samuel Moffat after arriving in New Jersey joined the Woodbridge Presbyterian Church in New Jersey in l710. William Moffat was the founder of the Moffat family in New Jersey and Ulster County, NY.

-The son Samuel Moffat of the elder Samuel Moffat and brother to William Moffat stayed in Racavan Parish, Townland of Ballylig, County Antrim and married Martha McCully his Will was proved in l765 and is in the Record Office in Dublin; his children were: Thomas, William, John, Margaret and Mary.

-William the son of the elder Samuel Moffat and brother to Samuel Moffat... had a son in l704 in Ballylig (before William left for New Jersey) the child was also named Samuel Moffat named after his Grandfather Samuel and his Uncle Samuel.

-So there is not another "Generational Link" between the elder Samuel Moffat of Scotland/Ireland/New Jersey and the Samuel Moffat that married Martha McCully and who remained in Ballylig, County Antrim Ireland. These two are known to be Father and Son.

-This can be very confusing but we need to digest all of this very slowly and then it becomes very clear.

Hope this helps - any questions feel free to contact us!
