Giles I Butts, Sr. - Questions about Giles Butts Parentage

There appears to be a problem with the connection of Giles Butts to Sir Edmund Butts and Anne Bures.

Others have shown this as questionable.

The fact that records say that there was only one heir is problematic. Anne was said to be the sole heir. Also, Giles birth date presents a problem.

Great find! The Visitation record cinches it. Three brothers married three sisters who were co-heirs, then one brother Edmund has an only daughter who is heir also of her uncles. In other words, the Ann Butts who married Nicholas Bacon was the only grandchild on either side of the family.

We'll have to find a new place on the tree for poor Giles.

For American descendants it seems there is also a question about the parents of immigrant Thomas Butts. This line could use more work and documentation.

S far I haven't found any other possibility for parents on Giles.....
