John cannot be the son of William Stringfellow Hancorn-Smith. John born before reported father.

Well spotted, I have disconnected him..

Thanks guys - That's probably the result of something I did this morning - I was merging in an entire duplicate tree for them. Not all of the profiles were managed by me, though - so was waiting for the Data Conflicts to come up in the Merge Centre to eliminate some of the bad data by resolving against it. One of the tree's data was far more speculative than the other, so there will be other Data conflicts in this area too.
The Hancorn is only added in after John's wife's maiden name - so definitely not.

PS - This is Daisy Louisa de Melker's ancestry, in case that's interesting.

Sharon= thanks so much re Daisy. My mother said that the old song "Daisy, Daisy tell me your answer do..." was based on Daisy. I have also found a document that a journalist witnessed Daisys hanging-and I would like to include a copy of this. A lady at the Victorian Linden Museum kindly allowed me to take pics of it-she has the original document in her care in Gauteng.
Please may I ask how do I trace family members of the Gregans and Cullens that came to SA. If anyone can advise please?

Haha - seems a bit cheerful, given her treatment of them :-)
Please do add everything pertinent: that would be so great - I see she is developing a small cult following on Geni.

Do a name search on Geni. Also start a discussion on the Welkom Cuzzins project (I've sent you an invite) and on the SA Geni FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/243811932355680/

With regards to the HANCORN-SMITH AND GREGANS-I have personal family photos of Syndey and Thomas Hancorn-Smith, with their mother? Mrs Teubes (Wolfenbuttel) as well as the following-Frederick Henry Gregan, Gertude Mary Smith, Edwin Gregan, (young) and Edwin Gregan with wife. The Gregans lived in residence at Dick Kings House in Isipingo. I also have a picture of a Captain Nicolson (not sure how he fits in as Im new to this) As well as Edward, Mary and James Hall-Escort to Prince Imperial- if these mean anything to others?

From Wikipedia :
"Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two)" is a popular song, written in 1892 by American Harry Dacre, with the well-known chorus "Daisy, Daisy / Give me your answer, do. / I'm half crazy / all for the love of you", ending with the words "a bicycle built for two".

Hi Alison

If you would like to share the photos, I'm sure there are loads of people who would be very interested in seeing them...

I have started tidying up this part of the tree.... more work is required.. please pitch in..

There is also a very good group on Facebook who might help placing your HANCORN-SMITH AND GREGANS

@ Jennifer and Donovan-thanks for those details. Very apprecitated!

Obviously the song "Daisy, Daisy" has nothing whatsoever to do with Daisy de Melker, having been written in America when she was six years old. It is about "a bicycle made for two".

@ Jennifer-thanks for that. I do know that it was sung in South africa in relation to Daisy. Perhaps thats why my mother said that?
