John Bristol, b 9-4-1659, ca 1735, m. (1) Mehitable UNK (per Bristol Genealogy, BFA) and had 3 children: John, b.10-4-1686, dy; Mehitable, b. 6-29-1688, dy; Joseph, b. 8-9-1689. Sometime between 1689 and 1705/6 after Joseph was born, she died, and John married 1 or more times until he married Mary (Potter) Mansfield who had a son John b. 6-15-1706. !& years is far to many for a father to go without a mother for his children. His first 2 children died, Joseph by his first wife lived a long time and had many descendants by Joseph. John b. 17 years later also had many descendants. These are mostly listed in the Bristol Genealogy.
People keep putting data on here under the presumption that they have the real facts or just by their own ignorance how to report genealogical data in an honest and hopefully a professional manner.
The theory is that John Bristol's 1st wife, Mehitable, was a daughter of John Jackson, who had a daughter named Mehitable. Some believe she died young. I am NOT one of them. After Mary's death John Jackson married Sarah (Bourne) Smith. Sarah by her Smith husband was mother or step-mother to members of the Smith family who had themselves married with Bristols.
The fact that Joseph had a daughter named Mehitable reinforces these data. Other records offer info showing support to this scenario. They are not handy to me right now.
As I run across these data I will post here. But, if I see anymore unsupported (Bible records, court records, town records, letters of contemporaries) not of this quality, I will withdraw from this endeavor altogether.
The Coat of Arms posted on this website is an example of unqualified arrogance which does not deserve to be seen on a legitimate forum This Coat of Arms belongs to Samuel Ellis Bristowe, of Beesthorpe Hall and Twyford, esq., He or his descendants, if heirs, lives in Australia.
