If you choose to test at geni and was to load your results to gedmatch. . Can it be done and how can it be done? Thanks.

Hi Sophie,
It depends on which test you had done. Assuming it was the autosomal one ("Family Finder", you go to gedmatch.com and follow the instructions there after having downloaded your raw data from FTDNA (the company that has your results for the test you purchased through Geni)
I wrote a post on how to do this with the data from 23andme or FTDNA here:

Thank you Kris. So only the Autosomal test is transferable to gedmatch?

The autosomal allows you to update two raw files (one is the X chromosome info) to Gedmatch.com. Any Y-DNA can be added to Y-Search.com and mitochondrial data can get put on mitosearch.com.

Oops. Very sorry but those website references above are not accurate. The websites are mitosearch.org and ysearch.org.

Hi Harvey, I was under the impression that those two upload only the y DNA.

My concern was if and when geni is used that I am able to upload the results to. gedmatch. If any of the test is excluded.

It makes no difference if you ordered the Family Finder test through Geni, the raw data is the same at FTDNA. Follow the gedmatch directions for FTDNA, as they are the company that does the test, and where you access your results. The results are exactly the same as if you had bought directly from FTDNA.

Gedmatch is for autosomal DNA, the other sites mentioned by Harvey are good for the other tests if that is what you have (mtDNA or Y-DNA)

Ok thanks

You manually add your haplotypes to Gedmatch if you know it/them. I had DNA testing done at 23andMe so I got my MtDNA haplotype and my son's Y haplotype. There's a spot on the profile information page on gedmatch for each.
