I see one can now order records from the Family History Library -- https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Photoduplication_Services - free, up to five records may be requested per month.
Has anyone used this service? I see they require a name, address, and phone number as well as an e-mail address -- even tho all records are e-mailed to you. What do they use the address and phone number for? Do they send lots of mail advertisements or solicitations? Do they make lots of phone calls soliciting things? As for the e-mail -- Do they spam you?
so -- any answers, responses to my questions above from anyone who has actually used the service?? Any comments at all about the service from anyone who has actually used it?
Erica suggests the analogy is to JewishGen -- which only asks for e-mail, and does send a huge number of "please send money" e-mails. I would very much not like to receive an equal number from yet another organization. -- especially one which will use phone as well.
also FHL is from Mormon Church - which does go door-to-door soliciting in my neighborhood - so I don't think the possibility that they might target me more is as funny as Erica finds it.
Lois - As a New Yorker I don't think I ever even met a known Mormon in person, and the wonderful Family History Library near Lincoln Center was often oddly empty. So that's why I laughed.
I think you'd have to ask them their uses of mail etc if it's not posted on the site.
And yes, the JewishGen fundraising can get a little much. But it's a good cause so ...
