So it's not easy to run across this work but wow is it amazing when you do.

Check out this gem - includes a video of how bedclothes were made

Tagging my 9th cousin x 8 to the discussion (hopefully the tree is now correct)

Love this one, Erica!! Did you know that I have spinning wheels and looms?

Lois White (Marsh) is my fifth cousin 8 times removed. I feel like I know her though her beautiful work!

Great find, Erica! It's amazing to think of her not only doing the decorative work, but making all the materials beforehand. Of course, it's not like she could have popped down to her local Joann's to pick things up.

Linda, I got my BA in textile art and have had many looms over the years. None now though -- no room -- but I'm looking forward to have one again when we move to a bigger place. You're lucky to have some and I'd love to see the work you do on them!

And Lois is my 6th cousin x 9, which I guess means that we're all related too.:)

Private I haven't done a lot on my looms. I wove tea towels as christmas gifts a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't take pix of them before I gave them away.
These are two of my looms. It has a practice piece on the larger loom. (granddaughters have also worked on this sample strip.)

I'm hoping to have the time when I retire to do a lot more weaving. I spin a lot more then I weave. Some of that here.

Do you have any pix of your weaving?

That's a beautiful loom, Linda! I used to have a very similar one, but a bit narrower. It was nice that it folded, so that it could be tucked in a corner when not in use. I also had a huge antique counterbalance loom that took up most of a room. The one that Lois White used was probably like it.

I have a few of my weaving project stored away somewhere, but never took any pictures of them. Maybe someday...

I think my hubby might protest if I got a larger loom. ;) But a huge counter balance sounds like fun!

I've done some more work on Lois' husbands so there might be more family connections.

Her 1st husband is a direct descendant of Rev. John Davenport, one of the founders of Connecticut. They were only married 4 years before he died - I haven't figured out how. She erected a touching monument to him.

Her 2nd husband was quite the character. I added "the wrestling story" to his profile; at age 56 he won a match with an Oneida warrior by sitting on him. :):)

I'm pretty sure the children were all from Judge White's 1st wife. If I have it right he pioneered the wilderness, then came back to "civilization" to fetch his (mostly) grown children & find a new wife.
