Now that the will of James Seay has been found, we know that James' youngest son was John Seay, b. abt 1740s, much later than all of James' other children. It is possible that this John eventually settled in Hanover County, but evidence is lacking at this time.

My current belief is that John Seay, the youngest son of James Seay, moved to Richland County, SC, appearing in 1810 in census records, and dies there around 1828. He fathered at least four and possibly seven children, including my ancestor, James H Seay. (b. ca. 1801, d 1866). There are no direct documents that I know of that prove or disprove this theory, however, the timing and DNA support it. Feedback is welcome.

William: Thank you for the information. My line has a paper trail back to a John Seay, Sr of Hanover County in the late 1700s but I hit a wall before that. The timing looks right for both your line and mine. And like yours, my DNA matches those of other Seays who have a paper trail back to James Seay Sr of King William County.

If you ever find documentation please let me know and I promise to do the same. Best regards, Jim
