Implex is descent from a couple who are themselves descended from a common ancestor. If they are third cousins or further apart, they are not considered legally related. I entered Louis Masse as the ancestor of my second great-grandfather. Then I entered the identical data as the ancestor of his wife, my second great-grandmother. Now Geni tells me in one place that Louis Masse is my fifth great-grandfather and in the other place that he is my seventh great-grandfather (the ascending lines are unequal in years). Does Geni have any process for linking the same person's data when he appears more than once in a family tree? Is this too much for any algorithm to accomplish?

GENi is in my opinion slightly flawed, due to the fact that the algorithm choose the shortest path over the correct one most times. There is currently no way to over-ride this process, and if one wishes to display ones patrilineal or matrilineal line one must do so manually and share it on ones profile page. I have a few cousin marriages in my paternal tree, and they wreak havoc, showing the same people as being related to me in many different ways through many different paths.

hi jerome i merged the two Louis Masse profiles together for you
