John Brett, born about 1635, (the Immigrant) came to the new world, leaving his wife and child behind. After coming to the new world, he resided in Isle of Wight County, Virginia, along within another blood line of this writer -- Joseph Bridgers (American Revolutionary War Veteran)
John's son, (John Brett, Jr), was also born in England, but joined him within the new world, in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. John Brett Sr, died in Isle of Wight County, Virginia about the 1670s. John Brett, Jr married Susannah Bressie, also of Isle of Wight County, Virginia and died, 1738 in Bertie County, North Carolina. A will was filed in Bertie County and was probated upon the death of John Brett, Jr., but the will has never been found.
It should be noted, that my family includes John Brett (born 1635), all his descendants, and are related to Whitestaunton Manor, Chard, County, Somerset, England. Sampford Brett Village, County Somerset, is named after the Brett family of Whitestaunton Manor.
The Brito family (Sir Ansgar Brito/Brett), received the property within County Somerset, from the Duke of Normandy after the Battle of Hastings, Hastings, England.
William Brett, of County Hastings (born 1618) and his family were also related to the Witestaunton Manor Brett's. This William Brett was the progenitor of the Brett name in Massachusetts.
William's cousin, Mary Brett (Isham), (born about 1603 in England) is also linked to the Whitestaunton Manor, as well as her brother, Sir Edward Brett, from Kent, England.
