Previously I had written a few people concerning the GENI Master Profile for George Abbott, Jr. (George Abbott, of Norwalk), I am addressing this to any and all who seem to be working on George Abbott, Jr. (so called). This George is my 7th great-grandfather.

After spending hours trying to make sense of this family tree I have decided to give up on GENI as it pertains to this “George Abbott, Jr.”. His family tree shows him as the son of “George Abbott, Sr.” and Dorthe Root Abbott. I have never seen any proof that we know anything about “George Abbott, Jr.” before his being in Windsor, CT c. 1640. Therefore, calling him Junior would seem to be technically inaccurate. If anyone has a proven information concerning his parents and home town I would be delighted to receive it. In addition, Dorthe Abbott shown as nee Root was actually George’s daughter, not his mother. She did marry a Darius Root.

Actually the data show in the Master Profile is more incorrect than the family tree. It shows him as born 1630 in England. On page 345 in “Norwalk” by the Rev. Charles M. Seleck, published in 1896 we find a statement that he appeared in Windsor in 1640 and was fined £5 for apparently selling ammunition to the “red men.”. This means he was aged 10 when he did so. Hmmm. This Master Profile then states that he died in February 1689 (59). Actually this was the date his estate was inventoried, so he might have died in late January. The date 1689 (59) is apparently an error the the double date of 1689/90.

Again we do not know his father and mother’s name. It is possible that his mother’s name was Dorthe, a variation of Dorothy, the slang of which was Dorcas, the name of one of his daughters. Their children were John, Dorothy [Dorcas], Priscilla, Mary, Jonathan, George and Daniel. No Whinniah.

In the Overview section, George did NOT marry Hannah Chandler, Sarah Farnum or Dorcas Graves; there was no Darcas Graves. After the death of his wife Mary he did marry the widow Johanna Williamson, also shown as Willlaims, but had no children by her.

If any wishes to correspond with me please by-pass GENI and go to William Abbott at: gchcog@charter.net.
