Hello! I am just starting to build my Fay Family tree. My ancestor was called John Fay, son of John Fay and Mary Young. He was born in Killare, Co. Westmeath (between 1882 and 1887) and before leaving Ireland to Argentina he is registered in 1901's census as living in Killeenbrack, house 9. His brothers were James, Joseph, John and Patrick and his sister was Mary. He married in Argentina, in Pergamino. I don't know the year when he arrived in Argentina, yet it must have been after 1901 because in such a year he is in Ireland's census.
My Family and I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I would love to be able to find anything about my ancestor's brothers and sister in Killare, Ireland, and know the place where the Family is buried in Killare. I also believe I might have relatives in Argentina.
Hi Claudia
you're welcome to contibute. I am just trying to guess things out here,All I know for sure is the reference to the Killare graveyard being the family graveyard for Fays from Cloonagh, Bishopstown and my own ancestors in Togherstown/Killeenerk.
I hadn't noticed but there are 17 people with the Fay name in the Killare region, two families of James 50 Bishostown and your John 55 Killeenbrack (who could be brothers) as well as Bernard at 98!
It's hard to get beyond a certain date in Ireland. Maybe we can help each other!
Hi Tessa
Thank you very much for your reply. I am also trying to work out the relations with the Fays Yes, let's help each other, I do believe( and hope) we can sort out some things together, we are hard workers...jajaja.
I am considering the possibility of Lawrence, Patrick and John(my John 55's father) being brothers, since their ages are close. Lawrence died in 1888 and my John of Killeenbrack's father (also called John Fay) died in 1873, Feb 12th, in Killeenbrack, at home. So, this John Fay dead in 1873 might be Lawrence's and Patrick's brother. Bernard Fay at 98 might be the uncle of these 3 brothers ????
John Fay who died in 1873 had a son also called John Fay, ( my John 55, who married Mary Young) and mighth have been cousin of Lawrence's sons (and Patrick's as well) ????
Following my Family line there are 3 John Fays in a row; John Fay who died in 1873 (and might be Lawrence's brother), his son John Fay who is 55 in the census and his grandson John Fay who emigrated and is my great grandfather. I also believe My John Fay 55 and James are brothers.
I am trying to get some civil and church records from Ireland in order to be able to trace this line with the branches and the ancestors. It is a hard work puzzling all these data together, but it is well worth!!
my guess is;
1) Bernard + brothers, one of them the father of John, Lawrence and Patrick
2) Lawrence, John, Patrick
3) their children; (Edward, John and Timothy=Lawrence), (John, James=John) and Patrick's (????)
4) My great grandfather and his siblings - James, Joseph, John, Mary, Patrick.
Best regards
Dear Claudia
I already responded to a Claudia Fay re the Fays from Killare but part of my information was incorrect. I have spoken to my sister-in-law, Margaret Fay, and she has told me the correct story of your ancestors from Killeenbrack, Westmeath.
My late wife, Bridget Fay was born in Killeenbrack, Killare, and her father was Joseph Fay who is definitely a brother of your great grandfather John. Her father had three brothers James, John and Patrick and one sister, Mary. James never married and remained in Killeenbrack. John emigrated to Argentina and Pat went to Newyork where he married and had one son. However, his son was killed in a motorcar accident and Pat returned home to Westmeath. Mary married late in life locally and had no children. Now, my wife's father Joseph married when he was almost 50 years of age and he had six daughters - Mary, Teresa, Margaret, Bridget, Ann and Nora. All six girls emigrated to London, England and four are still alive. Five of them married and between them they had 17 children (all distant cousins of yours).Tthe farm in Killeenbrack still belongs to the Fays and is let out to a neighbouring farmer. My late wife often spoke about your great grandad John and how he sent money home to Ireland to pay for a headstone to be erected over his parents grave in Boher graveyard, Killare. If you wish please e.mail me - my e.mail address is dankerryman@yahoo.com. The Fay sisters here knew that their uncle John married in Pergamino, Argentina but were of the opinion that he had no children. My wife said that her dad missed his brother John very much. Of course they were close as Joseph was only a year older than John. i would love to hear from you and i can get further information off the other Fay sisters two of whom live near me in northwest London.
I am an Irish man from a little town beneath the hills ont he south west Kerry coast. I met my late wife Bridget Fay R,I,P, in London and was happily married for almost 40 years.
God bless, Dan Moriarty
