Hi ~
I'm wondering if there is a list of the Jewish families living in Cincinnati in the early 1850s. Both my 2nd great grandfather and my 2nd great grandmother settled there (separately) and that's where they married. I'm trying to determine if there was other family there, of both of them, which brought them to Cincinnati.
Any suggestions as to where to look would be appreciated!
Many thanks,

Hi Randy,
Thanks for responding! Here's the thing, Aaron J. Marx arrived in Cincinnati in 1853 and married Bertha Lamm in Cincinnati in 1858. As of 1858 they were living in Painesville, OH, then in Pennsylvania where Aaron enlisted during the Civil War, and sometime in 1867 they settled in Cleveland where Aaron became the first Jewish policeman (his picture is hanging in the Jewish museum in Cleveland). In 1860 Aaron's sister (Schanette) Jennie was living with them in Painesville.
Bertha Lamm had a lot of family in Cleveland, her mother was a Höchster, so she was related to the Hays family of Cleveland as well as Kugelman, Kane, Hyman, Aub and many other families.
I know who Aaron immigrated with, although I don't know if those people (the Rosenbaum family of Schluchtern, as well as a couple of single girls) stayed in Cincinnati or not, but I don't know who/what might have drawn both Aaron and Bertha there initially. So I don't know what names I might be looking for there. If I saw the names I suspect I could quickly figure it out.
I am not active on Geni anymore, but these families are all included here. That's why Ann asked me if she could include Thorman in the project; Aaron Marx's daughter married Simon S. Thorman. But I can no longer vouch for the accuracy of my information, because people have gone in and made a mess of things.....
Looong answer to a short question! Thanks for asking, Randy and I'm excited that you might be able to find an answer. I've tried without success!
