Garfield served with the First Infantry Division (The Big Red One ).Garfield served in north Africa at kassirin Pass to Tunisia, Italy where he met Gen. Patton.Garfield then went to England to train. On 6 Dec 45 he took part in operation Overlord more widely known as D-Day. Garfield landed at Omaha Beach (well 200yrds off shore) in chest deep water carrying his 40lb radio above his head to shore then across the beach raining down with bullets and bombs, losing many friends that day, Garfield made it thru that longest day !
