George died in Melbourne Australia and was buried in the Melbourne cemetery in Presbyterian area 1136 in April 1878 after a short illness he travelled to Melbourne for treatment but passed away. He lived in Hay NSW for a number of years after emigrating to Australia in 1859 on Greyhounr from Liverpool to Melbourne. Four children; George (1871), Isabel (1873), Donald (1874) and Jane (Jean) (1878). His wife, Jane Mowat, later remarried Thomas Patterson who was manager of Ulonga. they had one child, Ivy, and is buried in Hay (1919). George and Jane owned the property Ulonga north of Hay and later Tattersall's Hotel in Hay.
