I'm correcting myself. Lt. Samuel seems to have been the youngest child of Herodias Long & George Gardiner. That puts his birth date after 1656 & before (need to look up the divorce )
More controversy - Jo Ann Butler (Herodias biographer) has
1657-58 Rebecca, Herodias and George Gardner's final child was born

Which would make Samuel a son by George's 3rd wife, Lydia Ballou, & born more in the "after 1660" time frame.

" in his article on George Gardiner of Newport, R.I. (TAG 21:199) does not include Samuel in the list of George's children (by either Herodias Long or Lydia Ballou). This does not mean that he wasn't, but that it is worth checking. His estimated birth year of 1662 is before George married Lydia Ballou"
So -
- Torrey has DOB 1662
- He is not a son of Herodias Long. Not only is he born too late to have been, he had no property share & is not in any of those transactions with John Porter (her 5 sons made out like bandits)
- He's born before the separation of Herodias & George & before the 1665 marriage of George & Lydia Ballou
WeRelate has Lt Samuel as a son of Lydia & George, 1662 birth, with the comment.
