old house evid. number ... new one ---- old street name vs. new one ... house owner

very useful , you can explore the location and owner of the house ... if is not next relative to your family

Just walked through the Jewish quarter last night!

I read that the Jewish quarter was cleared out of most houses in the late 19th century to stop the over-crowded conditions and most of the old houses were replaced with nice Jugenstil ones.

look at :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josefov
Most of the quarter was demolished between 1893 and 1913 as part of an initiative to model the city on Paris. What was left were only six synagogues, the old cemetery, and the Old Jewish Town Hall (now all part of the Jewish Museum in Prague and described below).

I'll check my foders i have old pictures before the "redevelopment"

I wish there were good photos of the Old cemetery in Zizkov, which the Czechs cruelly destroyed mostly in the 1980s. See http://www.jewishmuseum.cz/en/aedz.htm

Hi Randy, no way just only Josefov .. but i can ask today Mrs. Matusikova on it ... my greatgreatgrandpa killed by gipsies nearby Pilsen 1870 was buried in Pilsen or Zizkov ... both cem. are gone .. typical comunist's
I guess two of my greatgrandpa's sisters are buried also there ... now just only the empty place

the Zizkov cem. was destroyd in time building the TV tower ... concrete Prag's era
