I think he'd miss the MRCA distinction by at least a few decades. Edward III is estimated to be a direct ancestor of a minimum of 99% of people with English ancestry, so that makes me think there has to be someone more recent than Marshal, even if only by a couple generations, for the British Isles MRCA. Maybe someone has an exact projection? Or I can look it up.
on his profile, I dont believe Isabel Delaware Marshall was ever his wife, (the other Isabel was ). I have searched all over and all I have come up with is this:
http://familytrees.genopro.com/beltster/Marshall/default.htm?page=M...
and that William's grandfather was Gilbert , and he is also listed here as isabel delaware marshall's grandfather. So I think someone made a slight error. Other than that I can find no record of her anywhere, not even on the wikipedia page or any of his sources in the about me.
Yep - there's a perfect match between
Isabel "Delaware Marshall" and Isabel de Clare
her father Richard "Delaware Marshall" and Richared de Clare
her grandfather Gilbert "Delaware Marshall" and Gilbert Strongbow FitzGilbert de Clare
and so on
But it's going to take a curator to fix this.
However, it's going to take
Ofir's got the lot locked up so no one else can touch them (except Richard, who is now "DeClare" as he should be).
There were no "Delawares" in the 12th century - the name back then was "de la Warre" and has never been connected so directly with William the Marshal.
NO ONE before William the Marshal should be using the surname "Marshal(l)" - especially not his in-laws.
I have got back as far as Nigel de Plumpton and Avicia de Clare in my family tree, around 1220. I believe Avicia de Clare is related to William Marshall, probably his granddaughter. There is an Avicia de Clare, born in 1220, but Isobel, William Marshall's wife died in 1220 a year after her beloved William, so unless she was pregnant the year she died, I'm confused. Can anyone help?
