Where to Begin a Family Project

First - congratulations, just reading your post made my day.

I'm going to take one of your questions, I'm sure others will be along to help with the others.

To link trees you need a single profile, set to "public," for both branchs. Drag, drop, & merge; resolve any data conflicts by agreement of the manager(s). If you need help with that, post the links (the profile URLs) for the match.

However, the hardest and most important part will be for you to decide on a Project Title that will incorporate the all the various parameters of your project's goals. Randy Schoenberg has been very successful in this complicated area and he might be able to help brainstorm a Project Title with you.

The best thing is just to get started adding to your tree and inviting new family members to Geni by plugging in their e-mail addresses on their profiles. That way they can all help build the tree with you.

Unfortunately, there is not yet a good way of importing trees from MyHeritage or using a Gedcom. The problem was that importing created too many duplicates that needed to be merged, so the feature was disabled. But you'll find that once you get started, it is not too hard to re-create the tree on Geni, especially with the help of your collaborators.

If you have print-outs of pedigree charts, you can upload those to the project page and invite your collaborators to use them to fill out the tree.

I am wondering if Geni's Project category is really even what Krysia wants. Possibly. But possibly not necessary at all for what she is trying to accomplish. If the folks she wants to share info with will all be within the same Family Group -- ie if all those relatives are 4th cousins or closer - then probably not necessary. Family Discussions will work for sharing discussions. [Only Public Profiles can be added to Projects - and Projects are Public, yes?? Krysia - are you looking to share with the world, or only the relatives - or ??]
