Do any of the many many many managers of John Bigg have documentation of his alleged first marriage to Joan B.? I'm concerned that if he was truly born in 1561 it may have been difficult for him to have married her in 1534... and I haven't stumbled across any proofs for the marriage. Since he married Rachel Martin when he was 22, I'm not sure how he could have had time for a prior marriage, unless it was extremely short...

Any insights? If we can get consensus, I'd like to cut Joan free. Even better, it would be terrific to determine where she really belongs.

Sorry, I misspoke above - the marriage to Joan was supposedly in 1554, not 1534 - only 7 years prior to his birth instead of 27! A much smaller miracle, but still miraculous...

As you can see from the About Me, I didn't find any evidence for a first wife but since there were managers of the profile when I MPed it, I didn't want to cut her off, since someone else had added her (I assumed). Sorry I didn't notice the marriage date!!

Hey Hatte! No criticism meant! Sometimes there just aren't any hard-and-fast answers - which is sort of hard on my black-and-white nervous system, but genealogy is helping me learn to be flexible, lol. I just thought I'd float the question and see if anyone can help pin it down...

He's my 10th ggf, ancestor of the famous Stowe family that I am descended from.

Yay, he's my ninth! That must be the point of connection between our two trees. My tree took a right turn and I'm not connected to the rest of your Stowes (except thru Nathaniel).

OMG, we're connected thru two lines! Nathaniel Stow is in my paternal tree, but we're also 11th cousins on my mother's side! What a hoot!

Isn't it amazing? This happens all the time. In such a large country, you would think that random people would not be related, and not in multiple ways. Of course the early families intermarried over and over, so it's very common. Private User and I once counted 9 ways we were related, many of them direct ancestors we shared.

How interesting! I'm used to it in my Mormon lines, but those are all fairly recent. I'm not used to it in my non-LDS lines, and to find a connection between my mom and dad's ancestors, wowzer! What endless fun genealogy is...
