Thank you!!!!!!
Last that I had tracked them they were still in Cumberland. By chance do you know if they took Rebecca Perdew Johnson, Drusilla's mother with them to Illinois? She was with them in Cumberland in 1880.
Looking at your names, I am thinking you are a cousin.
I am a descendant of Rebecca Perdew Johnson's brother, Laben Perdew. I am likely also related to her father, Daniel Johnson. I suspect that he was the half-brother of my ggg grandfather, Emanuel Johnson. Gonna have to confirm that by DNA though [waiting for evidence to show up through the testing we had via ancestry].

Hi - My grandfather is John Harrison Gross's son, Charles Louin Gross. I have the cemetery records, but the only name on the head stone is Luther Gross. I also have a picture of the headstone. I have a lot of information on the Gross side of the family dating back to 1040 in England. No they didn't take Rebecca Perdue with them. Just there children. Talk to you later Carol
(Gross) Johnson
You are indeed my 4th cousin 3x removed because Drusilla King Johnson was a daughter of Rebecca Perdew.
Rebecca was one of the nine surviving children of William Perdew and Charity Casteel. William fought in the Revolutionary War and was given a land grant in Bedford County, PA. Very few of his descendants spelled their name Perdue. The children of his grandson, Wesley, spelled the name almost exclusively as Pardew.
Prior to the Revolutionary War, the Perdew family was residing in the Maryland Colony for several generations. Charity Casteel descends from Edmund du Chastel who arrived in Philadelphia within the year of its founding. Edmund married a de Bon. This name turned into Boon very quickly. Rumor has it that this is the paternal family of Daniel Boon.
My DNA testing through Ancestry is matched to many descendants of Daniel Boon. I would expect this since I am likely related to three of his four grandparents (his maternal side is related to my Paternal side. His paternal side to my maternal side).
On to the Johnsons. This is where things get sketchy. Cpl. Thomas Johnson, Jr, who was in Capt. Joseph Chaplin's Malitia Musters around 1757, was one of the early settlers in the Town Creek area. This area straddles the border of Southampton, Bedford, PA and Flintstone, Allegany County, MD. His land was near what is now called Elbinsville, PA. Records indicate that he came with two of his brothers. One of them drown in Town Creek and was buried in the Indian graveyard. The other was in and out of the tax records but never seemed to settle enough to have much property. Thomas had two sons- John b. 1760-1770 and Abel b.abt 1780. Their land was in Colerain township of Bedford County, PA until about 1810 when that part became Southampton township, Bedford, PA. I believe that Daniel Johnson was the son of John Johnson but cannot be sure. If you look at his land, Daniel and Rebecca were nestled between the land of John Johnson and Laban Perdew (Rebecca's brother). Unfortunately, Rebecca's brothers, who were lawyers, sold the land out from under their own sister, a widow with children and caretaker of her special needs brother (Asa), in order to settle the estate of their father. Nice, huh?

Thanks for the information, but I didn't know anything about Drusilla's side of the family, and nothing was ever mentioned.
I was looking at the Pennsylvania Philadelphia City Death Certificates
1803 - 1915, and found a Rebecca Johnston died 05/10/1883 I went to pull the certificate but had the wrong name on it. This is thru familysearch.com
not sure if this her until the record can be copied. I see in the 1850 census Rebecca's household had herself, Asa Perdue, Martha J., & Drusilla Perdue in it. Talk to you later. Carol
