Gosvinta/Galswintha appear in the Geni profile of Chilperic I, King of the Franks. Both names appear on the profile when you pull them up. Are they the same person? The Wikipedia entry on Chilperic’s overview states that his marriage to Galswintha produced no children. Yet, Gosvinta/Galswintha appears as one of my distant great grandmothers and mother of Childperic II. Does anyone have an explanation of this? Thanks.

Galswintha, queen consort of Neustria

Chilpéric I, King of the Franks at Soissons

@Gosvinta is my 42 grt grandmother Judy Rice

We did it again Judy. Gosvinta is my 41st great grandmother.

But is Gosvinta the same as Galswintha?

According to the tree Vicki, Gosvinta is also the daughter of Gosvinta, but on their profiles the name is spelled 2 other ways. Galswintha and another my keyboard won't do. If that helps.

Another point is that there is an awfully long line of "only child"ren from that single child. I tend to believe your source that Chilperic II had a different mother. There are 3 other choices.

Thanks Vicki Thomas. It appears to have been added via a poor merge. I've fix it.

Should all references to Gosvinta be deleted? There does not appear to be any such person. Its Galswintha I think. Unless Gosvinta is a variant name of Galswintha. Something has indeed changed because now Fredegunde is my gggg grandmother and not Galswintha/Gosvinta. So be it, as long as something has been corrected. Thanks.

No, both Gosvinta and Galswintha are acceptable variants, Galswintha being the Gothic form, and Gosvinta being the Latinized form.

Thank you.

Sure thing. =)
