I HAVE DONE CONSIDERABLE RESEARCH TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHICH NAME TO USE, ADELPHUS OR HERMOGENIANUS, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT HIS NAME IS ADELPHIUS/ADOLPHUS, I HAVE FOUND 2 DIFFERENT SPELLINGS FOR THE NAME, HERE ARE SOME LINKS TO SHOW SOME OF WHAT I HAVE FOUND, I HAVE FOUND NO TRUE SOURCE INFORMATION AS OF YET, BUT HAVE FOUND SEVERAL ONLINE TREES WITH THIS INFORMATION, I WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY INPUT ON THE ISSUE, THANK YOU,, THOMAS YOUNG

Tom, this is harder than it seems. The idea that Papianilla and Ruricus de Limoges are descendants of Petronius Probus is an academic reconstruction based on naming and inheritance patterns. There is no actual proof. So, by definition, it's not possible to know whether they were grandchildren of Adelphius or of his brother Hermogenianus -- it's all guesswork. Anyone who pretends to have found an answer has just made an arbitary guess.

We either have to leave these generations in doubt, or cut them loose.

Justin, Thank You for your response, I should have worded that differently. you are so right, this is harder than it appears, as I have told you before I do research all profiles before I install into my home database, I could find no true source material on this issue but did find in many other trees on different genealogy websites the information I mentioned above, since I could find nothing on this I decided to start a discussion on the matter hoping to get some input and other ideas, and possibly some sort of source material, I feel that if someone is added to a tree the person who added them had to get the information from somewhere, and that is what I am trying to find, and I am sure I am not the only person out there who likes to have the source information, I do know that some of this is guess work, but where did the guess come from, there has to be something written somewhere to have made a person make that guess, and I would just like to know what that is and where it came from, that is the reason I ask so many questions when I cannot find my answers on my own, again I Thank You for your response,

I'll check my notes. Might be a week or two. I think this line comes from Christian Settipani, Nos ancêtres de l'Antiquité (1991). Won't swear to it, though.

Settipani is a French history who has done a lot of work with Gallo-Roman families, developing theories to connect them to the family of Charlemagne. Amazing man. One of my genealogical heroes.
