I would guess it is an abbreviation for Unknown.
I noticed that she have her husbands surname and that is probably wrong for that time period.

The profile used to be called "Mrs. Berhard Rogers", then spent a little time as "Mary unk. Rogers", before the present value of "Anne unk." with last name Rogers (unk is in the display name only).

David Lee Kaleita or Donna Jane Avery may know more.

Re: time period. Women in England were known by their husband's surname as far back as the 13th century that I have seen. But the choice on "display" should be manager & family, I would think.

Sorry, I've got no information. My only edit was to mark her deceased.

Erica, I would not fabricate facts like that, especially when you don't even have documentation that they was married.
You know, outside US it is possible to get children without being married ;-)

Yes, and there's a misunderstanding of the translation of the word "wife." Under English & American common law, it can be (and was) used even when there was no wedding.

But my point was simply that it is not historically correct to say that it is likely incorrect that a woman in 16th century England did not use her husband's name.
