This guy as father of Hendrick Martensen (which means son of Martin, bit of a stretch for Philippe) has been discussed to death on rootsweb and genforum as probably a myth. The guy who wrote the book never produced any sources, and no one else has been able to find any either. Hendrick apparently went back and forth between the colonies and Europe (not too unusual for the time) and apparently spoke both French, and presumably Dutch, since there are documents mentioning him in New Netherlands. Combination of French and Dutch would lead one to suppose he might come from what is now Belgium, where French and Dutch are both spoken often in close proximity to one another, and where the local Dutch speakers are quite good at languages, having been the minority tongue for a while.
It would be good to find the "von Copenhagen" source for Hendrick as that's another possibility.
Philippe is likely just a figment of someone's imagination.
