I am not sure who to ask . . . I have a some-what distant family member who is having increasing difficulty in using GENI because of his health. He is willing to turn over management of all of his profiles to me. We already collaborate, however, there are still profiles I cannot work on. Is there a way to transfer ALL of the profiles he manages directly to me? He is totally willing to provide whatever permission is required, as soon as someone call tell us how to go about making this change.
I look forward to hearing back fro ANYONE !!!
RGS
When closing an account you have an option to decide who should get your managed profiles, but if he want to continue to be a user, but still want to make you the primary manager of the profiles he have to ask Geni technical staff to help him.
Before doing that you can however focus on your main problem: Full access to his profiles, and since you already collaborate it is probably private profiles that are blocking you. To solve this you have to start collaborating on family group level. You find an option to invite to family group in the Actions menu in his profile.
he is my 2nd great aunt's great nephew.
There is a problem in contacting him thru GENI (period for tht matter). He does NOT always understand what is being asked of him, so many times requests go unanswered UNTIL he speaks personally with someone.
He is located in Johannesberg. His phone # is 27 11 782 7544. He as 2 email addresses - never sure which one he is looking at. They are:
eddie.price@telkomsa.net
eddie.price@hotmil.co.za
I hope all of this helps. He is a nice guy, but he currently is suffering from some kind of leg problems that is causing him extremely discomfort and making him very irritable.
Please advise if there is anything additional I can provide. I will be MOST happy to try.
Thanks for the efforts. RGS
here is an e-mail I just received from Eddie . . . . . . . .
Hope this helps, RGS

to me
Hi Rick. Are you able to send this to Geni and copy to me?
For some months now I have been physically uncomfortable working at my computer so I am very happy that you are willing to assist me in maintaining our family tree and I am happy to give you whatever permission you need. Please pass this on to the powers-that-be at Geni. They can continue to communicate with me at eddie.price@telkomsa.net You left out an “a “from my hotmail address that you sent them but for now I want to keep the hotmail address for emails and the telkom address for Geni
To whom it may concern at Geni
1) Please note the authority I am giving to Richard Simon above.
2) Please send me the email address by which I can communicate with you directly
3) Please do not renew my subscription to Geni “automatically” without my express permission nearer the time
Thank you, Eddie Price
Private User (customer service) - can you help Richard (Rick) Gary Simon and Harold Edwin (Eddie Price) - with the best way to handle this.
Sounds like - Eddie does Not want further Geni emails, msg.'s, responsibility (passing that onto Rick) - Except for Eddie's permission (approval) to renew his Pro memebership when it comes.
------------------------------
Rick,
1) some of Eddie's ancestors, etc. profiles are Private - and the managers are: Emily Kaye Krigel, Harold Edwin, Larry Sheer.
2) I would suggest sending the Managers Family & Collboration invites, stating the benefits and Eddie's request for you to help him. Someone in that Froup - making the profiles of people who Died = Public - would be a Good idea.
3) - Max (Mordechai) Price profile (you added) in the tree has location - Kovno, Russia - which would drive Lithuanians crazy. Wikipedia is best for locations - as it names multiple languages. For cities I use current name & (in bracket 1-2 other names). Thus in the profile above I would have: Kaunas (Kovno), Lithuania -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kovno
Just want to make sure - are you both aware - if click "Actions" at top - upper right - of profile, then click "Manager Options" -
1) the person who is Manager can Add A Manager, who then has to accept - this is one way, even tho slow and laborious if many profiles, that your relative can add you - and he even then has the choice to make you the Primary Manager
or 2) the non-manager can request to be added as a Manager - so any profile you can access - either to view or edit - you can request management of -- this may be easier for your relative, since then all he has to do is go thru the list, clicking accept.
Hopefully, Charles will help you do this wholesale easily - but if that does not happen soon, wanted to make sure you were aware of this option. Also - once you are a Manager of the Profile, IF he wants, he can delete himself as manager (again, thru Actions -> Manager Options, this time clicking on the little 'x' in box with his name in list of managers)
I have already done "some" of what has been recommended. However, there are 2 significant problems with doing it profile by profile. 1) I have to know EVERY profile for which Eddir is manager and 2) Eddie then has to grant permission, one by one. When he is having both the difficulty and lack of continuing interest, this can be- at the VERY best - very problematic !!!
Peter - thanks for your input. Please see my previous response as to my having done much of what you have recommended.
With regards the city & country you mentioned. I have made the changes per your suggestion. However, how would I know to list the location your way, when my documentation had it listed the way I entered it? Do you, as a matter of course, automatically check every location? And if you find a difference between the records you have and the website info, how do you know which one SHOULD be entered ???
Thanks again - I look forward to your further assistance.
Richard (Rick) Gary Simon - Send Private User (customer service) - a private msg., as to profile management.
Locations - if you're Not 100% sure of the name & country it's in - enter the name in wikipedia.
Typing in Kovno - re-directs it to Kaunas, because wikipedia knows the are the same names in different languages.
Yes, I always do that - for names I am unfamiliar with - otherwise, I could be earching families in the Wrong country :)
ps. if wikipedia gives you a Selection of several town/cities in different countries - do a) further research b) select 1-3 most likely and add OR in geni location
