I know there has been DNA study on both and I would like to know, did King Somerled come from King Niall family line? I wonder this because the DNA testing on my husband, shows he came from King Niall line. Yet, if the paper history is correct, King William 111, changed their surname to Smith from MacDonald about the time of the battle of the Boyne (July 1, 1690) Could it be Somerled was related to Niall?
