I am a descendent of the Recht line out of Lagow, Poland and will be visiting in June. I welcome any stories or guidance and any requests that I might help my broader family to fulfill while I am there.

If anyone has ideas for such a person, I am hoping to find a Jewish historian familiar with Lagow. Ideally, I would find such a historian fluent in English and Polish, who may help me to navigate my time there. Any ideas?

Good luck David.

I would love to go as well.

See what you can find in the Polish State Archives, Opatow branch for Lagow.

Where would you look for said historian and/or tour guide? Heck, I'd settle for someone Jewish living in the town that speaks English.

Hello David,

We're connected through my grandmother, Ruchel Merzel, and my great-grandmother, Esther Frimmerman, both from Lagow. Wish I could offer you some advice.

Best of luck on your trip.

Harold, how totally cool to learn of your family line. I had no idea that we had living family off of siblings of Abram. While I do my part on this family tree thing, I don't actually look around it much.

Do you know anything about Ruchel and Esther's lives in Lagow?

David,

I know quite a bit about them. Ruchel Merzel was married twice and had 2 children from her first marriage, one survived and came to Canada. She had five sons from her second marriage, 3 survived and came to Canada.

Are you travelling to Lagow with anyone?

I was planning to go alone but now I have a friend considering doing Poland with me so he may be along for the Lagow trip.

Do any of your stories about them include Lagow-specific information? It is an insanely small town. From what I can tell, it has a square around which everything was centered and the rest of the town is a handful of surrounding streets. Do you know what profession they might have been in?

it might be helpful to contact rabbi charles lebow who lives in israel. he has the best overall information about the family tree, and apparently knows of people from lagov now in israel. worth a try! good luck!
