My mother always told me that her Grandmother, Lucia F. Keyes, was 1/2 Native American Indian. She didn't seem to know any more than that. My mother's name was Betty and her mother was Pearl K. Camp, who was the daughter of Lucia and Merritt Camp. I am very excited that someone else has heard about Indian blood in the Keyes Family. I recently sent for the Civil War pension record of Albert Rush Keyes. I was able to find out how he died, his date of death and the marriage document when he married Jane Orinda Bailey. It also states in the documents that Albert was of dark complexion and had a severe drinking problem. Also says that Lucia was born in Iowa. I would love to hear from anyone who has more information on our Native American Indian connection. I am hoping someone out there has more information. You also may email me at eyeop@att.net.

I made an error in my original message. Merritt Camp was named James Merritt Camp and Jane (Jennie) Orinda Keyes Camp's maiden name was Heath not Bailey. Her mother's name was Priscilla Bailey. Sorry for the errors. Hope to find my Indian connection someday.
