I just renewed my Geni subscription and I'm supposed to pay for my heritage too, now? That's insane!

The new matches showing up are the new record matching and smart matching technology. This allows you to connect records directly to your geni profiles. there will be announcement about it soon.

Private User, no, you are not expected to pay for both. You can still pay for Geni Pro alone. MyHeritage is optional.

Private User, MyHeritage bought Geni months back. The two sites will still operate separately, but Geni users can opt in to connect data from MyHeritage's large collection.

Curators had the opportunity to test out these features in advance, and I can honestly say that they're very beneficial. I've had some great successes with this so far -- in fact, my tree on my mother's side has grown and been tidied up significantly thanks to record and tree matches I found via MyHeritage.

The features take some getting used to as you learn how to work with them best, but my personal view is that it's been worthwhile for sure.

They really need some marketing help. They should have given users bonus days and then offered a bundled package offer of the two.

So does this mean people on my heritage can benefit from all the work Geni users have done on their trees and use our profiles with no approval by the profile manager and vice-versa? Something seems fundamentally wrong about that.

they are doing final bug fixes before announcement

I think they should have a group of non-curator super users to test new features with.

Is there any way to hide these new matches without the honor of paying $6.00USD a month?

We're very excited to bring MyHeritage's Record Matching and Smart Matching technologies to Geni. Record Matches will automatically find matching historical records to add directly to your relatives' profiles. Smart Matches will find matches in your tree with trees found on MyHeritage. We believe these new Matches will add tremendous value for every Geni user and help us create the largest, most accurate and best documented family tree of the world.

We will make an official announcement soon. We're still ironing out some issues.

Private User Some data collections, such as Find-a-Grave are free. However, if you would like to receive the full benefits of these new Matches, then a MyHeritage data subscription may be right for you. If not, then you may continue to enjoy the benefits of a Geni Pro subscription.

Private User MyHeritage users do not receive matches with information from Geni. If we add this in the future, standard Geni privacy rules will determine what MyHeritage users will have permission to view.

Private User I have another service I pay quite a bit for as I'm sure many Geni users do for records because it offers a full breadth of records. I'm just annoyed that I literally JUST paid for an annual Geni subscription and now if I want more tree matching abilities you're asking me to pay AGAIN.

I'm a marketing and customer service oriented person and it just seems like it would have been smart to not bill people for a few days and to instead offer a bundled deal on the two. Make people feel like they are getting more, not that you are asking them to pay more. Two sides of the same coin, but the first is a lot easier to swallow.
