It is my understanding that there are no birth records at the Archive in Lviv past 1861. Is there any possibility that these records might be found in the Archive in Ternopol instead? I am trying to find sibilings of my paternal grandmother in order to locate living relatives from that branch of the family.
Does Ternopol have records? My maternal grandfather's father's family is from the Tarnopol area. Have you tried JRI-Poland to at least look at their indexing efforts. I had some luck ordering Microfims from the Mormons a few months ago but I had trouble interpreting some things and may have missed some stuff that relevant to what I am looking for.
Hi Steven, I paid a searcher years ago to get me started on my research (2002). However, there was nothing there past 1861. My greatgrandmother was born in 1849, so she was probably married around 1870. My grandmother was born in 1880, and I have confirmation about her birth and death from the IKG in Vienna. I am currently reviewing the microfilms from Fond 701, which contains the Brody records through 1861 to see if I find anything else of interest, such as siblings of my greatgrandmother. My goal is to find living relatives on that side of the family.
I wrote to an archive in Ternopol, but have not yet received an answer from them. If I find out anything I'll let you know.
I have been active on JewishGen for many years and have researched JRI-Poland over and over. I have found a lot of information on family members, but none in this particular branch. The mormon microfilms are mostly in German for this period, and it is not hard to decipher which are birth or death, or marriage records and make copies of anything of interest at the Family History Center. Translation can always be done later - I have relatives living in Germany and others who speak the language.
