Oliver C Fountaine - Ancestors of Oliver Fountain(e)

Oliver (b. 1904) and his father Jean-Baptiste, are a dead end for me, at least in part, I suspect, because there are so many versions of the spelling of his surname. I'd like to hear from anyone who might have a connection with this French Canadian branch of my family. I know they lived for a time in Black Brook, NY, near the Canadian border. I suspect their ancestors were from the Montreal area, and followed the sea corridor down through Eastern New York and Western Massachusetts for work, or possibly, to avoid the anti-French atmosphere that flourished at some points in the past.

Complicating things is the fact that I have seen the name spelled with and without a final "e." It may have even been Fontaine originally. At least, that's what my mother used to say.
