Maurits ten Damme (van Aarde) - Did he take his wife's surname or is this a typo?

Maurits ten Damme (van Aarde) - if it is correct that he took his wife's surname, perhaps it needs sources and a locked field, or a Curator note to stop it being lost.

obvious typo

well, not necessarily - the ten Damme family appear to have had some clout - and Swellendam is named after one of the daughters; so he might have changed his name to hers;
so it seemed worth checking before I corrected it.

I added that profile and my sources are now added to the profile - had he done that I would have made a note

thanks. I wasn't arguing - just pointing out the reason why I had erred on the side of caution rather than just editing it myself.

I mentioned before that I had found a number of male profiles I had added where they had their wife's name because of the way predictive names are used when adding a husband to a woman - they get given her birth surname as a surname and unless you keep your eyes open they end up with 2 names. I am sure that this was one of those examples.

A very good example on why I don't want Geni to assume/suggesting anything when adding profiles.
You should be forced to fill in every field yourself.

We do have that option - don't we? - Do not guess last names?

Partly, but only in the Name preferences setting in tree-view, and Geni ignores that setting when adding children and siblings, something that might cause similar problems in cultures with maternal, paternal or patronymic names.

:-( Just have to be vigilant!
