An urgent plea for help has been issued by the Oklahoma Genealogical Society. Here's the basic info:
----
Access to Oklahoma death certificates has recently become restricted and efforts are underway to remedy problems that were created. If you have been denied a death certificate from the Oklahoma State Department of Health Bureau of Vital Statistics since 1 November 2011, please send that information to news@okgensoc.org. We have been asked by OSDH through the author of the bill to document how many people have actually been denied a death certificate since the enactment of a law restricting access went into effect. Please send any details that you are comfortable sharing.

I realize this is an old thread... but what about OBC and adoption Records? Some of us can’t get any info on our adopted ANCESTORS ... these are people who have been long since passed and there are zero records to help us trace our lineage. My grandfather was born in 1912 Hugo, Choctaw County, Oklahoma. He was adopted from the Baptist Orphans Home in Oklahoma City in 1916. I have been told by Oklahoma courts that I need to go there in person to request his record (I live over 1500 miles away and that’s not an option financially). My grandfather passed away in 1959, and everyone from his adopted family have all passed away. Why does the state of Oklahoma make it so difficult for us to access the old records? Is there ANY way around this? Oklahoma DHS advertises a “search” feature for $400.00+ but that’s for living people. When I contact DHS, the courts, or Vital Recs, they all give me same answers like I’m searching for a living person. No one will find any other details for me about what to do when everyone is dead, and everyone I speak to, talks to me as I’m just being a nuisance and usually put me on hold and xfer me around til I get someone’s voice mail. I’m at my wits end! What are the options for those of us searching for info about our long deceased adopted relatives???? Anyone?!? Please HELP!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A NEWS STORY ABOUT THIS SITUATION. I’m not the only one, there are many of us, we have formed several groups so I know I’m not alone in this! PLEASE HELP!!!
