Margrethe was her real first name. She was my great aunt. She died before I was ever born. Margrethe came from a big family. One sister, Eliza Sophia Larsen, came to America as a young girl in the the late 1890's. She was married but her first husband died in a Copper explosion in Montana. Lizzie was pregnant and came back to be with her some distant relatives in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota. She gave birth to a baby girl, Edith. Later she met Martinis (Martin) Hanson and were married. Lizzie and Martin had a big family - Harold, Ben, Leif, Carl, Norman, Tom, Hans, Marie, Ella, Elizabeth, Laura, Ellen, and a baby boy died at birth. Altogether 14 children + mom and dad = 16 Hanson's. Out of the 14 children my mother was Elizabeth. She was born in 1912 and married my father Robert Emanuel Sipe (born in 1917) in 1946. I ( Mary Elizabeth Sipe) was born in 1951. My brother, Robert John Sipe, was born in 1956. My mother, Elizabeth died in 2000. My father died in June of 1994. Mother visited Norway in 1986. She visited her first and second cousins. I have a lot of the family tree and photos. One of Margrethe is a young girl & one in her bunad.
