Hi all,

I seem to have picked up a few anonalies relating to @Timothy Devine (PROG), and would appreciate any clarity on the matter.

Here are the notes I've made so far on his profile:
There appear to be some anomalies in the records relating to Timothy Devine. The 1820Setllers.com web site indicates that he was born in 1786 and died in 1865, and that he was married to Eleanor Devine. It also indicates that they had four children, namely John, Bridget, Jeremiah and Catherine.

However, a gravestone with Timothy's name on it, which also gives Eleanor's name, indicates that he died in 1888 at the age of 80 (giving a birth date of 1808) (see http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm30ddf0?201303071...). This could, of course be a trasncription error, but there are records in the NAAIRS RSA database that indiacte there was a 'second' Timothy still alive in the 1880s.

This could indicate that there were two Timothy Devines (father and son) with death dates of 1865 and 188 respectively, but I can't be sure.

The National Archives of South Africa's NAAIRS RSA seems to indicate that there were, in fact, three Timothys (possibly indicating a family trend of naming the eldest son after the father): http://www.national.archsrch.gov.za/sm300cv/smws/sm300ds?2013030609...), Various death and distribution account records occur there, which give the following information:
1. Timothy Devine d. c.1865 (Inventory and Appraisment Account dated 1865; Distribution Account dated 1866)
2.Timothy Devine d. c.1880s (Various Distribution Accounts dated from 1886 to 1892). These obviously can't refer to the 'first' Timothy as he died in 1865.
3. Timothy Devine d. 1945, married to Mary Devine (Cronin) (Death Notice dated 1945)

@Timothy Devine's entry on the South African Settlers web site also indicates that he died in 1865 at the age of 80: http://www.southafricansettlers.com/?cat=14&paged=25.

Any thoughts anyone???

Thanks and best,
Lee

The hyperlink to Timothy's profile above doesn't seem to have worked. Here it is: Timothy Devine, SV/PROG.
