Update a deceased status

I am trying to find out how to update the date of death for a cousin, who became a member of Geni, part of my tree, but it won't let me update her date of death.

They family should not be recieving notifications of her birthday, when she's dead. Because she became a member, it won't let me add the date of death.

GENI.............help.............you should have a fix for this. I created the tree, I should be able to maintain it.

Anyone know how to make this happen?

Go to Actions on the top right hand of the Profile view for your cousin. Click and pull down the menu of options. Click on Report Profile. It should give you the option to Report deceased.

Geni usually acts quickly to mark the person as deceased and to pass management of them and the profiles they manage to the nearest relative who is active on Geni. You can add a comment and tell them who the nearest relative is or suggest that it should be you since you added the profile.

Good luck. I ran into this with my cousin's mother too but Geni straightened it out quickly.

Thank you very much Hatte. I followed your instructions and recieved a confirmation this evening that I was able to go in and update my dear cousin's date of death. I was in a panic mode that I had created a tree that I could not maintain.

I know how you feel. Geni staff were very responsive to my request to have this specific reporting handled more rapidly. Otherwise, families would be getting birthday notices. I'm so happy they took care of it for you quickly!

I wish there was an easy way for people to find out how to report a relative as deceased.
