Born 24 March 1864 in Bagley, Hordley, Shropshire, England. Arrived in Bluff, NZ with mother, father and 5 siblings on SS Waitara on 25 December 1875. He joined the Bank of New South Wales, Invercargill as a junior clerk on 1 October 1882 on a salary of £25. He became an exchange clerk and ledger keeper and his salary was increased to £50. He transferred to Dunedin Bank of NSW in March 1885, to Naseby on 25th October1886, Oamaru on 24th June 1890, Gisborne on 10th July 1890, Napier on 20th July 1896, Auckland on on 18th May 1897, Hawera on 9th April 1900, Cambridge on 16th August 1901. At age 40, he married Gertrude Louise Smith at St Peter's Church Cambridge on 16 November 1904 and finally moved to to Pahiatua Bank of New South Wales on 18th April 1906. In 1907, he oversaw the building of the new Bank building on the corner of Mangahao Rd and Main Street Pahiatua. He retired aged 65 in 1929 after 23 years as Pahiatua Manager and died at 8 Main Street on July 16 1940 aged 76.
