I may be late to the party in noticing this but thought I'd share nonetheless. I just logged into my MyHeritage basic account that I created a month ago to check out the new owners of GENi and discovered that everything I've entered into GENi, including photos, has been sucked into MyHeritage and appended to other people's trees (presumably people in my extended family tree); my account only has three profiles. The weird thing is that the data just seems to have been auto-sucked into MyHeritage without review, and relationships are incorrectly displayed, married names have been appended for non-married partners and the profile vist counter was on zero for every profile I visited, which tells me that nobody has even looked at the profiles that got sucked in from GENi, much less reviewed and approved the linkages into existing trees there as you would expect.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
From the evidence I have so far it's not clear who on MyHeritage might have exported a GEDCOM with my tree in it, but it was my previous understanding that a GEDCOM was only a text file - not true. According to Wikipedia a GEDCOM export can include links to multimedia files that are mapped to individual profiles - and it appears that GENi is either enabling this GEDCOM feature or else enabling links to GENi profiles from MyHeritage since all the media files from the GENi profiles I entered are now over in MyHeritage profiles not managed by me. Be aware.
